Why did you want to enter The Revo’s?
A marriage of stewardship between the Welsh Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council, Ffos Caerffili’s primary objective is to create longstanding benefit to Caerphilly town. By harnessing the Transforming Towns Fund and the Caerffili Town 2035 regeneration masterplan, the new shipping container market injects financial and social investment into a town which we believe deserves to be recognised.
What makes your entry standout?
Ffos Caerffili is a visually striking market, packed with characterful, intimate spaces. It renews a distinctive, vibrant and engaging retail environment at the heart of a historic market town.
The blending of cosmopolitan character and hyper-local charm represents a bold approach to re-development. Delivered directly by Caerphilly County Borough Council, the maiden project of the Caerphilly Town 2035 placemaking plan has proven to be a catalyst not only for investment and development but also reinvigorating town pride.
How do you envision the future of your industry, and how do you hope to contribute to it?
People-centric design must be at the heart of everything we do as designers. Architecture doesn’t have to be defined just by the physical spaces we create, but also the ways those spaces contribute to fostering healthier, happier, and more sustainable communities. We must prioritise the needs and desires of local people, ensuring that spaces remain accessible and malleable in an ever-changing world.
The built environment plays a key role in combating climate change. We must place great emphasis on reducing carbon emissions, using (and reusing) sustainable materials, and embracing green energy solutions if we are to overcome this challenge. We should be forward-thinking to create spaces that work in the short, medium and long-term.
