REFLECT- LIVERPOOL ONE

Involved Partners: The Community Foundation for Merseyside; Culture Liverpool; Liverpool BID; Visit Liverpool; Marketing Liverpool; Liverpool City Council

Liverpool ONE is a place for people to socialise, be entertained and enjoy. It is a place people feel connected to; a place where they belong. The team maintained this ethos throughout the pandemic, finding innovative ways to remain connected to the community and consumers. This included adapting the Dinosaurs Unleashed AR game to become Liverpool ONE At Home’ to play remotely.

Similarly, Liverpool ONE held a virtual Christmas light switch-on, with a film of the event played in care homes throughout Liverpool City Region. Such initiatives supported the local community, maintained Liverpool ONE’s position in consumers’ lives, and virtually ‘kept the lights on’ during the darkest months of the pandemic.Liverpool ONE also played an active role in a number of city-wide initiatives to promote LCR, including the ‘help campaign’ from Liverpool BID, Visit Liverpool and Marketing Liverpool to encourage residents to shop and eat locally to support the city’s businesses.

Liverpool ONE developed a positioning statement and design solution for city partners to ensure a cohesive roll-out of signage and communication to meet Covid-safe requirements. The strapline, ‘Be Kind, Be Patient, Be Responsible’, was implemented throughout the city. During the summers of 2020 and 2021, the amount of outdoor seating for diners was doubled and socially distanced family circles were created in Chavasse Park. As momentum built in the city’s recovery, Liverpool ONE continued to play an active role, safely hosting various events, from piano busking festivals to the River of Light. Meanwhile, Grosvenor evolved Liverpool ONE’s offer, with more than 40 brands signing, opening or renewing in the last 12 months. And the team continued its support of grassroots organisations, recognising many people were struggling financially and emotionally.

In 12 months, the Liverpool ONE Foundation donated £280,000 to community groups and charities. Liverpool ONE’s pandemic response demonstrates what is possible when creativity, collaboration and commitment come together.
