REINVIGORATE – ANGEL CENTRAL

CBRE Investment Management (CBRE IM) officially unveiled the £16m transformation of Angel Central, Islington in April 2021. This reinvigorated development was recognised globally with an excellent BREEAM certification, a system dedicated to the sustainable built environment. Also one of only three destinations worldwide to have an internationally acclaimed 2-star Fitwel rating measuring the commitment of place on the physical, mental and social health of customers. CBRE IM reports this significant investment has resulted in a boost of local business rates by £250,000 a year, a Net New Outcome £430,000 PA, plus a new GLA 12,100 sq ft.

To complement the 10-screen Vue Cinema and the O2 Academy, the £16m enhancements that began in December 2018, involved the creation of a flagship restaurant and leisure space plus a 20,000 sq ft anchor UNIQLO store. The reimagined basement carpark is now a bespoke FRAME fitness studio and the enhanced plaza and new Saint Espresso café has enlivened the public realm. Sustainability was considered within the reinvigoration programme; new electrical car points and additional cycling spaces both encourage access via public transport. To celebrate the first Christmas as a completed scheme, a sustainable forest was installed in the plaza and was subsequently distributed to local community projects in the new year and re-planted by the Angel Central team. DS. Emotion, the retained marketing agency, reported the second biggest social media reach statistic of 2021 in December; generating a total of 16k engaged social media users. Plus a combined reach of 319k recorded with high increases across Facebook (+260%) and Instagram (+230%).

Angel Central, one of the top 10 London retail destinations, has overcome complex works, a pandemic and public consultation process to deliver its vision of a connected, welcoming and revitalised environment for all. Angel Central remains the beating heart of the community with a reinvigorated new outlook.
